Congratulations, Jackiedra!
At the 2023 World Conference in Toronto, Jackiedra Wilson sat for and passed the Global Communication Certification Council (GCCC®) Strategic Communication Management Professional (SCMP®) exam. The GCCC® was created by the IABC to offer certifications to promote a common, global understanding of what constitutes professionalism and competence in communication. Jackiedra shared, "I took the exam once in 2018 and again in 2019. Each time, I sat for the exam solely based on my professional experience up to that point. This time was different:
First, it's been five years since I sat for the exam the first time; so much has taken place since then with communication right at the center in a way that hasn't happened in a lifetime.
Second, I joined our chapter's study cohort and read The IABC Guide for Practical Business Communication: A Global Standard Primer.
Third, I made time leading up to World Conference to review areas from the primer that I knew I needed to focus on. Taking the exam at World Conference was an interesting set of circumstances that included rescheduling from in-person to remote proctor (it's a long story), taking the exam in a large hotel conference room (hoping no one would enter the room during my exam), and having unbelievable tech issues. Tears were shed!
I was exhausted by the end of the exam both from adrenaline but also the extraordinary stressors I just mentioned. This experience was a reminder of how growth can be uncomfortable, but there is usually something on the other side that makes it worth it. Thanks to all the authors in the primer for sharing your amazing knowledge. Thanks to the Greater Cincinnati study cohort. And special thanks to my family who helped me review my notes."
We're so proud and inspired by Jackiedra's dedication to promote professional standards!
