IABC for Your Ears
Boost Your Value and Communication Skills with IABC PodCatalyst
During this pandemic, many of us have been spending time with podcasts for in-depth news, personal/professional development, and entertainment. In March 2021, Vulture, a Vox Media entertainment news site reported on the 2021 Infinite Dial study of podcasts. One of the report's findings was that "41% of the total U.S. population over the age of twelve, or an estimated 116 million Americans, can now be considered monthly podcast listeners, up from 37% the year before."
One podcast dedicated to the success of business communicators is PodCatalyst - The Official Podcast of IABC. It features stories from communicators around the world.
For example, the August 5 episode, Evolution in Leadership Communications: No More Town Halls, features IABC World Conference 2021 presenters Elizabeth Williams and Andrew Brown of the Academy of Business Communications. Here are some of the key takeaways from that episode:
- Frontline managers at each town hall location, along with the leadership team, are key to providing valuable input to what will be presented and to help reinforce the messages with their workforce. Listening to them and their local concerns is an important part of that process.
- Rather than company announcements or routine matters that are commonly communicated by other means, focus on strategic updates that help audiences understand their roles, rally their support, and invite their feedback.
Listen to the episode for more great material, like alternatives to town hall meetings that provide better outcomes.
You can find PodCatalyst on the Catalyst page of the IABC website. You can also find it on some of the popular podcast apps and directories, such as Google Podcasts, Spotify, Anchor, and more.
