Resources for Communicators
In the Greater Cincinnati area, there are around 60,000 Hispanic/Latinos members of our community. Nearly a third are under age 18.
In recognition of the profound influence and remarkable contributions Hispanic and Latinx people have made to all aspects of our civic and social life, the United States celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15-October 15.
First starting out in 1968 as a week-long celebration, 20 years later in 1988 it grew to become a month-long observance. Yearly, Hispanic Heritage Month honors the independence of Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Belize, México, and Chile. This designated month calls attention to the traditions and cultural histories made by 18.5% of the U.S. total population.
Honoring Spanish-speaking people and their contributions enriches our experience and understanding of heritage. Although many events have been cancelled in 2020, we encourage you to bring the fun to your workspace and/or home.
