Bob Herzog’s biggest secret: be yourself

IABC | Greater Cincinnati kicked off our 2018 – 2019 chapter year with a lunch and learn session presented by Bob Herzog, morning anchor at Local 12 TV. Herzog’s lively and engaging presentation on Thursday, September 20, highlighted three lessons on finding happiness and fun, gleaned from his unusual career trajectory:

  • First, embrace your own interests and talents, even in the face of disappointing people in your life. You may not be disappointing them, or you may receive support you didn’t expect. Bob did this twice: first with his father, a cardiologist, when he chose not to continue pursuing medicine (a revelation that came to him as a college junior sitting in an organic chemistry class) and the second time with the head of a law firm he joined after becoming an attorney, when he announced his decision to leave the law firm for a low-level job at a TV station that he loved.
  • Surround yourself with a network that lifts you, supports you, and helps you find your way. The right people in your life can help you piece things together and figure things out at just the right moments.
  • Lastly, find fun whenever you can. Many times life throws awful things your way, personally and at work. If you can find moments where you can let go a little and be spontaneous, you may find yourself bringing happiness and inspiration not just for yourself, but to others. Not every job lets you do that, but you can start in small ways.

Three key takeaways for those seeking more fun in their lives and work:

  1. Be yourself
  2. Network
  3. Follow your passions

IABC of Greater Cincinnati kicks off its program year this fall with a light-hearted look at what we all do for a living: communicate.

Bob Herzog, a member of Local 12‘s “Good Morning Cincinnati” team, has endeared himself to area news-watchers with his sense of fun and his community involvement. Bob has a story to tell about how to connect with people – and how to bring fun to work. Join us on Thursday, September 20, 2018 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM for this lunch event at Interact for Health.

Bob will talk about his career and what spurs his imagination to deliver creative content his audience appreciates. In particular, we’ll hear how Bob’s creativity spurred social media notoriety with Dance Party Fridays, “Just Don’t Go” and “Bob’s Makeup Tutorial.” And much more!

Bob joined the Local 12 team at the end of 2005. He anchors “Good Morning Cincinnati” with John Lomax and Sheila Gray. A Cincinnati guy, and more specifically, a proud West Side guy, Bob takes special pride in getting involved in community events. Bob is always inspired to see neighbors helping neighbors and friends helping friends.

He graduated from Oak Hills High School and Xavier University. Bob also obtained a law degree from Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University.

It’s no surprise Bob loves all kinds of music and movies. He has a passion for basketball, but his number one hobby is spending time with his wife and four children.

Don’t miss this great opportunity to learn how to bring more fun into your job. Cost is $25 for members and students, or $40 for non-members. Price includes lunch.
